Kidney stone removal for UTIs: does it help or not?

NCT ID NCT04495699

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looked at 94 adults with both recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and kidney stones that were not causing blockages. Researchers wanted to see if surgically removing those stones would lower the number of future UTIs compared to just monitoring the stones. Patients chose with their doctor whether to have surgery or watchful waiting, and the team tracked their infections over a year. The goal is to provide clearer guidance for doctors and patients facing this common dilemma.
