Which surgery is best for 2-3 cm kidney stones? major trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07295860
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will compare two minimally invasive surgeries for kidney stones that are 2-3 cm in size. About 280 adults across nine hospitals will be randomly assigned to either FANS-based flexible ureteroscopy or suction-assisted mini-PCNL. The main goal is to see which method removes more stones completely after one month, while also tracking complications, pain, and recovery time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
surgical procedures (FANS-based flexible ureteroscopy and suction-assisted mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors choose the best surgical method for medium-sized kidney stones, leading to fewer complications and better stone clearance.
What could go wrong
This is a surgical comparison trial, not a new drug or device. Results may not apply to all patients, and both procedures carry standard surgical risks like infection or bleeding.
