Ketogenic diet may be good for some, risky for others – study aims to find out who
NCT ID NCT07675603
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates why a low-carb, high-fat (ketogenic) diet raises 'bad' cholesterol in some people but not others, and how it affects blood sugar. Twenty healthy adults will follow both a ketogenic diet and a standard diet for 24 hours, repeating each three times. The goal is to see if individual differences in response are real and consistent, which could one day help doctors give personalized diet advice.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
low-carbohydrate (ketogenic) diet
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help identify who might benefit from a ketogenic diet and who should avoid it due to increased heart disease risk.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 20 healthy participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The diet may raise LDL cholesterol in some people.
