Can a High-Fat diet heal brain injuries?

NCT ID NCT04530032

Summary

This study tested whether special high-fat, low-carb diets (ketogenic or modified Atkins) could help people recover brain function after a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. Researchers enrolled 21 recent brain injury patients to see if these diets improved their thinking skills, memory, and quality of life over 12 months. They used brain scans and thinking tests to measure changes in brain metabolism and recovery.
