Ketamine shot tested to ease agony of chest surgery recovery

NCT ID NCT07138781

Summary

This study tested whether adding the drug ketamine to a standard pain-blocking injection could better manage pain for adults recovering from open chest surgery (thoracotomy). Researchers compared how long pain relief lasted and how much extra pain medication 50 patients needed after surgery. The goal was to see if this approach could provide longer-lasting comfort with fewer side effects.
