Ketamine shot during heart surgery may stop chronic pain

Summary
This study tests whether giving a single dose of ketamine during open-heart surgery can reduce chronic pain that sometimes lasts for months after the operation. About 100 adults having planned heart surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either ketamine or a placebo. Researchers will track pain levels, opioid use, and recovery for up to 6 months after surgery.
