New lung treatment aims to zap hidden cancer cells during surgery

NCT ID NCT02811523

Summary

This early-stage study is testing a new technique called In Vivo Lung Perfusion (IVLP) for people with bone or soft tissue sarcoma that has spread to both lungs. During surgery to remove visible tumors, doctors will deliver chemotherapy directly to one lung for 3 hours to try to kill microscopic cancer cells that can't be seen, while sparing the rest of the body from chemo side effects. The main goal is to see if this approach is safe and to find the right dose, with patients being followed for up to 2 years.
