Can a simple infusion stop a hidden virus from destroying new kidneys?

NCT ID NCT04222023

First seen Jun 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether giving intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) can prevent BK virus infection after a kidney transplant. The virus can damage the new kidney in up to 10% of patients. 359 adults with low protective antibodies against the virus received either IVIG or no extra treatment. The goal was to see if IVIG reduces the number of patients with high virus levels in their blood six months after transplant.
