Neck surgery pain relief: which nerve block wins?
NCT ID NCT07340801
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compared two types of nerve blocks—ISPB and ESPB—for pain relief after elective posterior cervical spine surgery. 102 adults received one of the blocks with bupivacaine, and researchers measured how much opioid painkiller they needed during and after surgery. The goal is to find which block provides better pain control and reduces opioid use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If one block works better, it could mean less pain and less need for strong painkillers after neck surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study comparing two techniques. Results may not apply to all patients or surgeries, and individual responses to pain blocks vary.
