Transplant offers hope to end insulin shots for some with severe diabetes

NCT ID NCT00706420

Summary

This study is testing whether transplanting insulin-producing islet cells into adults with hard-to-control type 1 diabetes is safe and can help them become less dependent on insulin injections. Participants receive the transplant and must take lifelong anti-rejection drugs to prevent their bodies from attacking the new cells. The goal is to see if this procedure can provide better blood sugar control and reduce dangerous low blood sugar episodes.
