New drug aims to halt kidney damage in IgA nephropathy

NCT ID NCT06797518

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests iptacopan, an oral drug, in 20 adults with IgA nephropathy, a kidney disease. Researchers will use kidney biopsies and lab tests to see if the drug reduces signs of inflammation and damage over 9 months. The goal is to understand if iptacopan can slow disease progression.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

iptacopan (oral capsule)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a treatment that slows kidney damage in IgA nephropathy patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The main focus is on biomarker changes, not long-term outcomes.
