New eyedrops aim to soothe dry, irritated eyes

NCT ID NCT05586152

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-stage trial tested an experimental eyedrop called INV-102 in 84 adults with moderate dry eye disease. The study had two parts: first, checking safety at different doses, and second, seeing if the drops improve eye dryness symptoms after two weeks. Participants used the drops or a placebo (vehicle) twice daily. The goal is to find a new option for people whose dry eyes aren't helped by current treatments.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a new eyedrop treatment that eases dryness and discomfort in people with moderate dry eye disease.

What could go wrong

This is an early first-in-human study with only 84 participants and short 2-week dosing. The treatment may not prove effective or safe in larger, longer trials.
