Uterine scar tissue after fibroid surgery: who is at risk?

NCT ID NCT04030273

First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how often women develop intrauterine adhesions (scar tissue inside the uterus) after having fibroids removed through laparoscopic or open surgery. Researchers will check for adhesions using a small camera inserted into the uterus three months after surgery. They will also track medical and surgical details to see which factors are linked to a higher chance of developing these adhesions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Diagnostic hysteroscopy (a camera look inside the uterus)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help identify which women are more likely to develop uterine scar tissue after fibroid surgery, guiding closer follow-up or preventive care.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study, so it can only show associations, not cause and effect. Results may not apply to all women or all surgical techniques.
