Which injection cuts bleeding best in fibroid surgery?
NCT ID NCT07390864
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests two drugs, ergometrine and carbetocin, injected into the uterus during fibroid removal surgery to see which reduces blood loss more. Forty women with symptomatic fibroids will be randomly assigned to receive one of the drugs. The goal is to find a better way to control bleeding and reduce the need for blood transfusions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Methylergometrine and Carbetocin (drugs injected into the uterus to reduce bleeding)
What this could lead to
If one drug proves better, it could become a standard way to reduce blood loss during fibroid surgery, lowering the need for transfusions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both drugs have side effects like nausea or changes in blood pressure.
