First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested a special way to treat donated red blood cells (called the INTERCEPT Blood System) to see if it is as safe and effective as standard blood for heart surgery patients. About 581 people having complex heart surgery received either treated or regular blood transfusions. The main goal was to check if the treated blood caused less kidney damage or other side effects.
