Skin cancer care varies by specialist – new study aims to find out why
NCT ID NCT07571031
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will show 20 cases of basal cell carcinoma (the most common skin cancer) to doctors from different specialties—dermatologists, oncologists, surgeons, and radiation therapists—to see how they classify and treat the same cases. The goal is to understand why there is so much variation in care and to work toward more consistent treatment decisions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more consistent staging and treatment decisions for basal cell carcinoma across different medical specialties.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It does not test a new treatment.
