Can a simple urine test predict kidney failure in ICU patients?

NCT ID NCT03720860

First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study is looking for early signs of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with sepsis or after major surgery. Researchers will measure inflammatory markers in urine, blood, and sputum to see if they can predict kidney damage. The goal is to better understand how inflammation harms the kidneys, not to test a new treatment. About 100 adults in intensive care will take part.
