Babywearing study aimed to boost black maternal health, but was pulled
NCT ID NCT06148831
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study planned to give soft infant carriers to Black pregnant parents through a home visiting program, to see if babywearing could help prevent postpartum depression and increase breastfeeding. The researchers believed that babywearing, a practice common in many cultures, could improve parent-infant bonding and mental health. However, the study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled, so no data was collected.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Infant carrier (soft baby carrier)
What this could lead to
If this had worked, it could have pointed toward a simple, low-cost way to support breastfeeding and reduce postpartum depression in Black communities.
What could go wrong
This trial was withdrawn before enrolling anyone, so no results are available. The approach is based on a small earlier study, and it is unclear if it would have worked in a larger, more diverse group.
