A new physiotherapy combo may soothe breastfeeding Moms' back pain
NCT ID NCT07766148
First seen Aug 14, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 14, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether adding hands-on thoracic spine mobilization to a program of scapular stabilization exercises provides more relief from upper back pain in breastfeeding mothers than exercises alone. Seventy mothers with moderate upper back pain will be split into two groups, both doing the exercises three times a week for eight weeks, with one group also receiving mobilization from a physiotherapist. Pain, mobility, and daily function will be measured at the start, at week four, and at week eight to see if the combined approach offers greater improvement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Scapular stabilization exercises combined with thoracic spine mobilization
- What this could lead to
- If adding thoracic mobilization proves more effective, it could point to a better physiotherapy approach for easing upper back pain in new mothers.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply to all breastfeeding mothers. The added benefit of thoracic mobilization may be modest, and exercises require commitment.
