Is 26°C too hot for grandma? new study checks indoor safety

NCT ID NCT07189507

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether the recommended indoor temperature limit of 26°C is safe for older adults (65-85) when they do light chores or wear extra clothing. Ten participants will spend 8 hours in a controlled room doing rest or light exercise, with or without an extra layer of clothing. Researchers will measure body temperature and heart strain to see if the current guideline needs to be lowered.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could refine heat safety guidelines for older adults, helping prevent heat-related illness during daily activities or when wearing extra clothing.
What could go wrong
This is a very small study (10 people) that only simulates indoor conditions. Real-world factors like humidity, health status, or longer exposure may change results.
