STI check could be key to HIV prevention in african women

NCT ID NCT06743204

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding testing for curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to standard risk screening helps more women in Uganda start and continue taking PrEP, a daily pill that prevents HIV. About 4,500 HIV-negative women aged 15-39 will be randomly assigned to either standard screening alone or standard screening plus STI testing. The goal is to see if STI testing improves PrEP use and ultimately reduces new HIV infections.
