Can a simple blood test before surgery prevent drug reactions?

NCT ID NCT03729180

Summary

This study looks at whether giving doctors a patient's genetic information before surgery can help them choose safer medicines. About 1900 adults having planned surgery at the University of Chicago will give a blood sample to test for genes that affect how they respond to common drugs. Half the time doctors will see the results, and half the time they won't, so researchers can compare if knowing the genetic info leads to fewer risky drug prescriptions.
