Scientists probe immune System's role in deadly pneumonia complications
NCT ID NCT03379207
Summary
This study aimed to understand why some cases of severe pneumonia get worse and lead to a life-threatening lung condition called ARDS, despite antibiotic treatment. Researchers compared blood and lung fluid samples from about 150 ICU patients with pneumonia to 50 ICU patients without pneumonia. They tracked specific immune cells over time to see how their activity relates to patient recovery or decline.
