New drug targets hepatitis b inside the liver – small study begins
NCT ID NCT06154278
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests a drug called Imdusiran (AB-729) in 10 people with chronic hepatitis B. Participants receive four injections over 24 weeks and undergo two liver biopsies to measure how the drug works inside the liver and how it affects the virus. The goal is to understand the drug's action and its potential to control the infection.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Imdusiran (AB-729)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a way to control or reduce hepatitis B virus activity in the liver, potentially lowering the need for lifelong medication.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It is also early-stage, and the drug may not work as hoped or could cause side effects.
