New implant could replace glaucoma drops after cataract surgery
NCT ID NCT06848946
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a tiny implant placed inside the eye during cataract surgery that slowly releases travoprost, a drug that lowers eye pressure. About 132 adults with glaucoma or high eye pressure will receive either the implant plus surgery or surgery alone. The goal is to see if the implant safely controls eye pressure better than surgery alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- travoprost intracameral implant
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a way to control eye pressure for months after cataract surgery without daily eye drops.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 4 trial with only 132 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The implant could cause inflammation or fail to lower pressure enough.
