Simple bedside test could predict ICU patient survival

NCT ID NCT07191743

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study follows 186 adults in the ICU to see if a physical function test called CPAx can predict serious outcomes like death or how long a patient needs a breathing machine. Researchers will measure function at ICU admission and discharge. The goal is to find a simple way to identify high-risk patients early.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors better predict which ICU patients are at risk for poor outcomes, leading to earlier interventions.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly improve patient outcomes, and results may not apply to all ICUs.
