Study aims to cut opioid use after wisdom tooth surgery
NCT ID NCT06539741
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at why some people need extra opioids for pain after having their wisdom teeth removed, while others get enough relief from ibuprofen alone. Researchers will study 200 adults having at least one impacted wisdom tooth pulled. They hope to find clues in genes or blood markers that could help doctors prescribe fewer unnecessary opioids in the future.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors prescribe fewer opioids after dental surgery by identifying who will get enough pain relief from ibuprofen alone.
What could go wrong
