Dye reveals hidden oxygen-starved spots in enlarged aorta
NCT ID NCT03410420
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested whether a special dye (pimonidazole) can safely detect low oxygen levels in the aorta of people having surgery for an enlarged aorta (aneurysm). Nine adults received the dye before surgery, and researchers measured how much dye was present in the removed tissue. The goal was to understand the role of low oxygen in aortic aneurysms, not to treat the condition.
