Could Splash-Based workouts soothe teen knee pain?

NCT ID NCT07679464

First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a 12-week program of water-based jumping and hopping exercises (hydro-kinetic plyometrics) can reduce pain, strengthen leg muscles, and improve quality of life in adolescents with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Fifty-six teens aged 10–18 with persistent knee pain are randomly assigned to either the water exercise group or a standard exercise group. Researchers measure pain, muscle strength, disability, and quality of life before and after the program.

Active substance

Hydro-kinetic plyometric exercise program

What this could lead to

If effective, this water-based exercise program could offer a safe, non-drug way to ease knee pain and improve daily function in teens.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with 56 participants, so results may not apply to all teens. The benefits may also depend on consistent participation.
