Could a pill help the liver regrow and make more cancer surgeries possible?

NCT ID NCT07612007

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests a drug called HRX215 in 80 adults with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver. Before surgery to remove liver tumors, patients often get a procedure (PVE) that blocks blood flow to the tumor area to encourage the healthy part of the liver to grow. HRX215 aims to speed up that regrowth, potentially allowing more patients to have surgery. The study compares HRX215 to a placebo to see if it safely increases liver size and reduces the risk of liver failure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

HRX215 (a drug that blocks the MKK4 protein to help liver cells regrow)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help more patients with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver become eligible for life-saving surgery by improving liver regrowth after a pre-surgery procedure.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 2b trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may not improve liver regrowth enough or could cause unexpected side effects.
