Can a pinch of pain erase what you just learned? study tests memory in aging
NCT ID NCT05471557
Summary
This study aimed to understand how a brief, sharp pain affects a person's ability to learn and remember a new way of walking. Researchers compared healthy young adults (18-35) and older adults (55-85) to see if pain disrupts this 'motor learning' more severely with age, and if normal age-related changes in thinking skills are connected. Participants walked on a treadmill while receiving either a mild, painful electrical stimulation or a non-painful sensation to test its impact on their learning.
