Why vaccines work less in the elderly: a new study investigates
NCT ID NCT06128915
First seen Mar 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looks at why older adults have a weaker immune response to the pneumococcal vaccine (Prevnar-13) compared to younger people. Researchers will measure how well neutrophils—a type of white blood cell—kill pneumonia bacteria in blood samples from 60 healthy volunteers aged 21-40 and 65+. The goal is to understand age-related immune decline, not to test a new treatment.
