Summary
This study tests a program in the Dallas County Jail that identifies people at high risk for HIV and offers them testing and education about PrEP, a daily pill that prevents HIV. A patient navigator helps interested individuals connect with PrEP providers after they are released. The study will measure how many people actually attend a PrEP appointment.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PrEP patient navigation and education program
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that offering HIV prevention services in jail helps people start PrEP after release, reducing new HIV infections.
What could go wrong
This is an early implementation study, not a drug trial. It may not prove that the program actually prevents HIV, only that people attend PrEP appointments. Results may not apply to other jails.
