At-home fingerprick test could replace clinic visits for diabetes screening

NCT ID NCT07155252

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a self-administered fingerstick glucose tolerance test done at home can accurately measure blood sugar levels compared to the standard clinic-based test. Researchers will enroll 60 people at risk for or recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. If accurate, this approach could make screening more convenient and accessible.

Active substance

self-administered fingerstick glucose tolerance test

What this could lead to

If accurate, this could allow people at risk for type 1 diabetes to be screened at home instead of going to a clinic.

What could go wrong

This is a small early study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The home test may be less accurate than the clinic version.
