Breakthrough trial aims to save HIV babies from deadly pneumonia
NCT ID NCT03915366
Summary
This study tested whether adding treatments for tuberculosis (TB) and a common virus called cytomegalovirus (CMV) to standard pneumonia care could help more HIV-infected infants survive severe pneumonia. It involved 563 hospitalized babies aged 1-12 months across six African countries. Researchers compared survival rates between groups receiving standard care alone versus standard care plus the extra treatments.
