Doctors test HIV drugs as potential Alzheimer's treatment

NCT ID NCT07210528

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether two HIV medications (emtricitabine and Descovy) are safe for people with mild cognitive impairment, which often leads to Alzheimer's disease. Researchers want to see if these drugs, which block a specific enzyme, might help slow memory decline by targeting a process linked to Alzheimer's. The 3-month trial involves 48 participants who will take either the active drugs or placebo pills while researchers monitor side effects and early signs of effectiveness.
