Sound wave surgery zaps kidney tumors in first human test

Summary
This study tested a new device that uses focused ultrasound (histotripsy) to break apart solid kidney tumors without making any cuts. Twenty adults with small, non-spreading kidney tumors were treated. The main goals were to see if the device could fully cover the tumor and if there were any major complications within 30 days.
