Sound waves zap kidney tumors in first human trial
NCT ID NCT05432232
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested a new device that uses focused ultrasound (histotripsy) to break apart solid kidney tumors without making any cuts. Twenty adults with small, non-spreading kidney tumors were treated. The main goals were to see if the device could fully cover the tumor and if there were any major complications within 30 days. This approach aims to offer a non-invasive alternative to surgery for kidney cancer.
