Can quick bursts of exercise boost student therapist fitness?
NCT ID NCT07153523
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether high intensity interval training (HIIT) can improve strength, endurance, and flexibility in physical therapy students better than routine physical therapy. Sixty-six students aged 18-24 will do either HIIT exercises (like burpees and lunges) three times a week for four weeks, or standard therapy. The goal is to see if HIIT offers a time-efficient way to keep future therapists fit for their demanding jobs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
high intensity interval training
What this could lead to
If this works, it could show that HIIT is a time-efficient way for physical therapy students to improve their own fitness, which may help them perform better in clinical work.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study in healthy young students, so results may not apply to other groups. The intervention is short (4 weeks) and may not produce lasting changes.
