NCT ID NCT07171593

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a high-protein oral supplement with HMB can improve muscle strength and mass in people with active Crohn's disease who also have sarcopenia (muscle loss). 44 participants will take the supplement alongside standard care. The main goal is to see if grip strength improves.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

high-protein oral supplement with HMB (beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a simple dietary supplement to help Crohn's patients regain muscle strength and mass.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 44 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The supplement may not improve muscle function significantly.
