Could electromagnetic pulses ease your knee pain?

NCT ID NCT07633782

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a device that delivers high-intensity electromagnetic pulses to the thigh muscles can reduce pain and improve quality of life in people with patellofemoral pain syndrome (front knee pain). Sixty adults with persistent knee pain will be randomly assigned to receive either the real therapy, a sham (fake) treatment, or standard physical therapy over 8 weeks. Researchers will measure pain levels, muscle strength, and overall well-being to see if this new approach works better than current options.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Therapy (device)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a non-invasive, drug-free option to ease knee pain and improve daily function for people with patellofemoral pain syndrome.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The sham group may also show improvement, making it hard to prove the device's true effect.
