New oxygen method may keep kids safer during lung exams

NCT ID NCT07563075

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether a high-flow nasal cannula (a device that delivers warm, humidified oxygen) can prevent dangerously low oxygen levels in children aged 1 to 6 years during a sedated bronchoscopy (a procedure to look inside the lungs). About 430 children will be randomly assigned to receive either standard oxygen or high-flow oxygen. The goal is to see if the high-flow device reduces the risk of hypoxemia (low blood oxygen), a common complication in sedated children.
