First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving patients warm, moist oxygen through a special nasal tube for 24 hours after major abdominal surgery can prevent serious lung issues like pneumonia or collapsed lungs. About 580 adults having long abdominal surgeries will be randomly assigned to receive either this high-flow oxygen or standard care. The goal is to see if this simple breathing support reduces complications within the first week after surgery.
