New oxygen method may prevent low oxygen in obese patients during stomach scope
NCT ID NCT07159022
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a high-flow nasal cannula (a device that delivers warm, humidified oxygen at high flow) can prevent low oxygen levels better than a standard face mask in people with visceral obesity undergoing sedated gastroscopy. The trial will enroll 200 participants and measure how many experience hypoxia (oxygen below 90%). If successful, it could offer a safer oxygen option for this high-risk group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
High Flow Nasal Cannula Oxygenation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a safer oxygen method for obese patients during sedated gastroscopy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with 200 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The intervention is only for short-term use during a procedure, not a long-term treatment.
