New breathing method may keep kids safer during surgery intubation

NCT ID NCT06425406

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 23, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether a high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) can prevent dangerously low oxygen levels in children during the critical moment when anesthesia stops their breathing before a breathing tube is placed. Researchers will enroll 48 healthy children aged 2-10 and measure how long it takes for oxygen levels to drop. If successful, HFNC could become a standard safety tool for pediatric anesthesia.
