Heart stent patients: could a tailored blood thinner dose prevent clots and bleeding?
NCT ID NCT07582835
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks for the best type and dose of blood thinner (P2Y12 inhibitor) for people who have had a heart stent placed. After an initial period on two blood thinners, patients switch to one. The goal is to find a dose that keeps blood clotting at a safe level—not too high (which could cause a heart attack) and not too low (which could cause bleeding). The trial will test reduced doses of ticagrelor and prasugrel against standard clopidogrel in 355 adults.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Clopidogrel, ticagrelor, prasugrel (antiplatelet drugs)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best drug and dose for long-term heart patients, reducing both heart attacks and dangerous bleeding.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center study with only 355 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The optimal dose found may still not work for all patients.
