Herpes drug tested as potential lifesaver for ventilated pneumonia patients

Summary
This study aims to determine if treating herpes simplex virus (HSV) with the drug acyclovir helps critically ill pneumonia patients on ventilators survive. Researchers will randomly assign 616 ICU patients who have both pneumonia and HSV detected in their lungs to receive either acyclovir or no antiviral treatment. The main goal is to see if the medication improves 30-day survival rates in these vulnerable patients.
