Could pressurized oxygen ease endometriosis pain?

NCT ID NCT06579040

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) can reduce pelvic pain in women with endometriosis. The trial will include 64 women who have moderate to severe pain and are waiting for surgery. Half will receive 40 HBOT sessions over 8 weeks plus standard care, while the other half will receive standard care alone. The goal is to see if HBOT can safely ease pain and improve quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-surgical, low-side-effect option to ease endometriosis pain while patients wait for surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial with only 64 participants. HBOT requires daily visits for 8 weeks, which may be inconvenient, and the effect on pain is not yet proven.
