DNA vaccine aims to train immune system against breast cancer
NCT ID NCT00393783
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether a DNA vaccine made from a rat HER2 gene can safely stimulate the immune system in people with advanced or high-risk HER2-positive breast cancer. Thirteen participants receive multiple injections of the vaccine at different doses. The main goal is to check safety and see if the body produces an immune response against HER2.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Rat HER2 DNA vaccine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new way to help the immune system fight HER2-positive breast cancer, potentially slowing disease progression.
What could go wrong
This is a very early phase 1 trial with only 13 participants, so it is primarily testing safety, not effectiveness. The immune response may not be strong enough to shrink tumors or improve survival.
