New combo therapy aims to keep advanced breast cancer in check
NCT ID NCT06172127
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests a two-step treatment for people with HER2-positive breast cancer that has spread or cannot be removed by surgery. First, patients receive a strong drug called trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) to shrink the cancer. Then, they switch to a maintenance therapy of two other drugs (trastuzumab and pertuzumab, given as a shot) to keep the cancer from growing. The study includes 165 adults and measures how long the cancer stays under control and overall survival. This is not a cure, as ongoing treatment is needed.
