New drug combo aims to shrink breast tumors before surgery
NCT ID NCT07335081
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a new drug combination (pyrotinib + trastuzumab + docetaxel) works better than the standard combo (pertuzumab + trastuzumab + docetaxel) for shrinking early-stage HER2-positive breast tumors before surgery. Researchers will use a blood test to measure tumor DNA changes after one treatment cycle. About 60 participants will be enrolled to see which approach clears cancer cells more effectively.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pyrotinib, trastuzumab, docetaxel, and pertuzumab (drugs)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a more effective preoperative treatment for HER2-positive breast cancer, potentially improving tumor shrinkage before surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 2 trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The experimental drug pyrotinib may cause side effects like diarrhea or heart issues, and it's too early to know if it's better than the standard combination.
